Track the ‘Big Five’ of Sri Lanka. An 8-day private journey from the leopard-rich Yala plains to the blue whale migrations of Mirissa. Curated by Sai Zooms Tours.

8-Day Sri Lanka Wildlife & Coast Safari | Private Expert-Led Tour

Day 1: Arrival & The Wetlands of Wilpattu

Morning: Arrival at CMB. Meet your private naturalist-guide and head North-West to the edge of the island’s largest park. Afternoon: Check into a luxury safari camp (e.g., Leopard Trails). Enjoy a sunset bird-watching walk around a local “Villu” (natural lake). Evening: A “Welcome to the Wild” dinner around a campfire, featuring traditional Sri Lankan jungle BBQ.

Day 2: The Silent Safari (Wilpattu National Park)

Experience: A full-day Private 4×4 Jeep Safari in Wilpattu. Known for its leopard and sloth bear populations, Wilpattu offers a much quieter, more exclusive experience than other parks. Highlight: Gourmet picnic lunch served deep inside the park under the shade of ancient Palu trees. Evening: Relax at the camp with a presentation on Sri Lankan leopard conservation.

Day 3: Ancient Ruins & The Elephant Corridor

Morning: Travel toward the Cultural Triangle. Visit the Ancient City of Anuradhapura (UNESCO), exploring the sacred Bodhi Tree and towering stupas. Afternoon: Experience The Gathering (seasonal) or a private safari in Minneriya National Park to witness hundreds of wild elephants grazing by the reservoir. Evening: Check into a boutique eco-resort overlooking the Sigiriya Rock.

Day 4: Spiritual Kandy & The Hill Country Transition

Morning: Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple at dawn to witness the light hitting the 150+ Buddha statues. Afternoon: Drive to Kandy. Visit an Ethical Tea Factory that supports local community schools. Evening: Witness the evening Puja at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, followed by a private meeting with a local artisan mask-maker.

Day 5: The Journey South: Udawalawe & Ethical Giants

Morning: Drive South to Udawalawe National Park. Afternoon: Visit the Elephant Transit Home (ETH). Supported by the Born Free Foundation, this is the most ethical way to see orphaned baby elephants being rehabilitated for the wild. Evening: A sunset safari in Udawalawe—famous for its vast open plains and guaranteed elephant sightings.

Day 6: Yala: The Leopard Kingdom

Morning: Short drive to Yala National Park (Block 1 or the quieter Block 5). Afternoon: A focused Leopard Tracking Safari. Our guides are trained in animal behavior, ensuring you get the best views without disturbing the wildlife. Evening: Stay at a coastal luxury camp (e.g., Wild Coast) where you can hear the roar of the ocean and the call of the jungle simultaneously.

Day 7: The Blue Frontier (Mirissa Whale Watching)

Morning: Travel to Mirissa. Board a Private Luxury Catamaran for a whale-watching expedition. Highlight: Spotting Blue Whales, Sperm Whales, and Spinner Dolphins in a non-intrusive, responsible manner. Afternoon: Relax at a boutique beach club in Weligama or take a private surf lesson on the gentle “curls” of the bay. Evening: A final sunset seafood dinner on the sand.

Day 8: Coastal Heritage & Departure

Morning: A private walking tour of the Galle Dutch Fort, focusing on its hidden courtyards and colonial history. Afternoon: Coastal drive back to Colombo or the airport via the Southern Expressway.
